For many years, 212 West Mitchell sat with a “For Sale” sign in its front yard. Located in Petoskey Michigan’s historic downtown, the previous owner was keenly aware that the old building was in desperate need of work. The location and its view of Lake Michigan, however, is ideal so the owner was sure she could find the right buyer. What needed to be done scared many away.  The foundation, in particular, was beginning to cave. The house had sunk and all walls and floors were severely out of plumb...  It needed someone who saw the potential.

In truth, we didn’t see it at first. But with a little patience and prodding from a Petoskey realtor, Carol Fay, Young & Meathe acquired the property in October, 2015. Once we committed to the location, we had a choice; tear it down or bring it back to its glory days. In the end, we thought it would send a positive signal to the community to renovate this historic Petoskey building.

Known for our dedication to quality in our custom-built homes, this will be the story of how we can also take an older home with good bones and, with a bit of vision and creativity, restore it to its former glory!
